Meet the FIRED Couple

We both hail from a humble middle-class background, raised by our parents to value education, have hard work ethic and remain grounded. These values helped us to have a solid 25-year career in some of the reputed global organizations. Must say we were also fortunate that we were able to ride the wave of the emerging Indian IT industry and opening up of the Indian economy. This opened the doors for us to work in different parts of the world. Here we were – the son of a farmer and the daughter of a public sector bank manager – living and working in Japan, UK, US, Europe and Singapore. Never did we both ever imagine of such an enriching professional and personal experience, while also building our financial independence.

Now that we both have retired early, we want to raise awareness on the importance of savings, investing and the overall path to financial independence (retiring early is an option … financial independence is a must!)

As personalities, we both are at the opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to many things. For example,

  • One of us love reading fiction and other one just reads non-fiction
  • One of us is completely up to date with all the sporting action around the world while other one knows all about world politics, films and history
  • One of us loves Japanese food while the other won’t even touch sushi or sashimi to save their lives

However, when it comes to our values, experiences, aspirations, we are very much aligned and this has been instrumental towards our financial independence and the experiences that we are seeking and like to share with the others now.

Our philosophy or way of life

  • No frugal living
  • Take calculated risks
  • Discuss and validate our assumptions/plans
  • Be there for family
  • Work hard, party harder!

Why this Blog?

We had achieved the FI – Financial Independence almost a year back but in mid of 2023, also took that bold step of RE – Retiring Early. The journey to Financial Independence wasn’t a lottery win, crypto haul or some other overnight get-rich-scheme. It has been a very boring, slow, consistent and relentless pursuit that required a certain set of spending / saving habits, investment behaviours and overall lifestyle planning (while still enjoying experiences with abundance).

This blog is a glimpse of our personal journey where we share our challenges, suggestions, philosophies and other aspects to the financial independence. As we’ve also taken the bold step of retiring early, the blog will also give you an insight on how the overall FIRE journey is progressing

Who should read this blog?

We believe this blog could help people who are at different stages of their working life (from just starting with their career to people who are living retired life). Ofcourse different aspects or sections of blog will interest different people but what we hope to maintain throughout the content is the concept and thread of Financial Independence. We have tried to simplify the financial jargon and shared our own examples so that non-financial savvy people could relate to it and work towards their own FIRE journey.
